When you are not living in Germany, it can be quite difficult to get your hands on German books for your children without spending oodles of money or waiting for weeks to get them. Especially, where we live it seemed quite difficult to get children’s books in German. Our local library, for instance, does not have a single children’s book in German! If you are in a similar situation, then KINDERBOOKS might be for you!
KINDERBOOKS is an online rental for children’s books in German. They are based in New York City (hence their domain name). You can sign up for one of three plans they offer: basic ($12.50 for two books per month), standard ($18 for 4 books per month) and deluxe ($30). For example, you can sign up for the $12.50-a-month plan. They will also ask you for your child’s interests. You will then get two books that they will choose for you based on your child’s interest. The books will be mailed to you free of charge with a prepaid return label. You can keep the books for as long as you want. However, in order to get a new set of books, you need to return them. Great tip–thanks! I signed up for KinderBooks last Thursday and received my first four books in the mail today (Monday). They did a great job of selecting books that were engaging and interesting for my three children based on the information I provided. I’ve had a hard time finding books in German to read to my kids here in New Jersey (without spending a lot of money on shipping), so this is a nice arrangement.
Cool! Viel Spass beim Lesen! Let me know if you ever come across other interesting German resources here in NJ!
