Die Sendung mit der Maus (The program with the Mouse) has been screening since 1971. It’s one of the oldest and most popular shows for children on TV. Each episode consists of several short segments that present information that is straight forward, simple, and easy to understand. There are two main components of each episode: Lachgeschichten (entertaining) and Sachgeschichten (informative).
The Lachgeschichten are more entertaining and fun clips. They are oftentimes cartoons such as Käpt’n Blaubär. The Sachgeschichten are short, non-fiction stories or mini-documentaries that show “how stuff works” (e.g., Why are there holes in the cheese? How do they make honey?). The mouse and her friends (the little blue elephant and the yellow duck) show up here and there between the different segments. The show is quite interesting—even for adults!
You can find episodes online at Das Erste Mediathek or on Youtube. There is also a website which has short video clips and interactive games all around Die Sending mit der Maus. Enjoy!

My son, loves to watched the program, however, i don’t understand how it can be for bilingual babies if the whole program is basically silent, with no spoken words, or am I missing something? thank you
Hallo Simone! Each episode of “Die Sending mit der Maus” has various small clips, some informative, others entertaining and fun, fictitious stories etc.. Here is the link to the Maus Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/c/diemaus. It has a variety of the clips that do have language. I think the only ones that are silent are the clips with the Maus and the Elefant. Otherwise, the clips are in German so it’s a resource for when you have German as one of your family languages.
