There is no doubt that reading to children is important! Reading has a positive impact on our children’s performance at school. Reading improves children’s creativity and reading was even found to make children more sociable. So reading to your child for only 15 minutes per day can already have a long and lasting impact.
Sometimes, though, it’s tricky to find good reading material, especially when you are looking for books or texts in the minority language. For German, there is a quick solution: Einfach Vorlesen!
What is Einfach Vorlesen! ?
Einfach Vorlesen! is a free service provided by the Stiftung Lesen and Deutsche Bahn Stiftung. Each week they provide three new stories: one for children age 3+, one for children age 5+, and one for children at age 7+. Einfach Vorlesen! works together with major publishing houses in Germany so all stories are nicely illustrated with age-appropriate images.
How does it work?
It’s super easy! You can read the stories on a smartphone, a tablet, or a desktop computer. Einfach Vorlesen! even offers free apps for both iOS and Android devices. If you prefer, you can even print them out. A nice feature: they also give you an estimate of how long it will take to read a given story.
Overall, this is a great resource for anyone looking for German-speaking reading material for younger children.
